Erecting, using, and dismantling access scaffolding on construction sites requires precision, leadership, and strict adherence to safety standards. This intensive, SAQA-accredited course (Unit Standard 263245, NQF Level 3, 5 Credits, CETA) trains learners to become competent scaffold erectors capable of leading teams and ensuring full compliance with SANS 10085.

Through a dynamic blend of classroom theory and extensive hands-on practice, participants will master the skills to:

  • Interpret basic drawings, sketches, and instructions to plan safe scaffolding setups.

  • Coordinate resources effectively, including PPE, tools, and team deployment.

  • Erect access scaffolding safely using correct sequences, handling methods (hand-over-hand, rope, gin wheel, crane), and stabilisation techniques (bracing, ties, ground evaluation).

  • Dismantle scaffolding systematically while eliminating risks and maintaining site housekeeping.

Delivered in English by experienced, registered facilitators, the program incorporates interactive discussions, real-world case studies, scaffold drawings analysis, videos, and practical erection/dismantling exercises on various scaffold types (tubular, system, towers, cantilever, etc.).

Learners must have communication and mathematical literacy at NQF Level 2 (or equivalent), preferably prior experience assisting with scaffolding (NQF Level 3 recommended), provide certified identification, and be physically fit to handle equipment and work at heights.

This training empowers scaffold teams to build safe, stable structures, lead with confidence, and prevent collapses—fostering compliance, professional competence, and a stronger safety culture on construction sites.

  • At the end of the course qualifying learners will be able to:

    • Interpret basic drawings and instructions for the erection of access scaffolding

Costs vary based on the provider's accreditation, course duration (including shorter 2-day basic/theory-focused options for experienced workers), practical intensity, and location (urban vs. on-site).

This training remains valid for enrolment until 30 June 2026 and achievement until 30 June 2029, making it essential for leading scaffold teams in compliance with SANS 10085 and the OHS Act.

    • Group Discounts — Most providers offer 10–25% savings for group bookings (8+ delegates), especially for on-site delivery where equipment is brought to your location.

    • Additional Costs — Include a medical fitness certificate (R400–R800, often required), fall arrest harness if not supplied (R1,000–R2,500), and possible transport/accommodation for off-site venues.

This training is mandatory under the OHS Act and SANS 10085 for anyone leading or erecting access scaffolding on construction sites, covering hazards like instability, falls, and material handling to prevent collapses and fatalities.

Yes, a shorter 2-day basic course can indeed be cheaper (often R3,500–R4,500), typically as an introductory or theory-heavy option for experienced workers or awareness-level training—though full practical accreditation usually requires 4–5 days to meet all outcomes. Always verify with the provider if the shorter version fully aligns with US 263245.
