Working in confined spaces on construction sites can expose workers and the public to hazards involving gases, water, fire, soil conditions, materials, machinery and equipment. This course provides structured training referencing SAQA Unit Standard 15034.
Participants will learn to:
• Recognise hazards associated with confined-space work.
• Identify appropriate protective clothing and equipment.
• Understand the preparation and training workers need before confined-space work begins.
• Plan emergency procedures and identify the resources needed to respond.
• Explain relevant occupational health and safety requirements for confined-space work.
Delivery may include facilitator-led explanations, discussions, demonstrations, workplace scenarios, exercises and knowledge checks. The activities included will depend on the selected delivery format and training venue.
This training supports safer work planning and hazard awareness. It does not replace site-specific risk assessments, permits, supervision, medical requirements, protective equipment or workplace emergency arrangements.
By the end of the training, participants should be able to:

• Identify protective clothing and equipment appropriate to the identified hazards.
• Identify the preparation and training workers need before confined-space work begins.
• Plan emergency procedures and identify the necessary response resources.

SAQA records assumed prior learning of ABET Level 4 Literacy and ABET Level 3 Numeracy for Unit Standard 15034. The booking team will confirm identification, documentation and any venue- or site-specific participation requirements before attendance.
Training is delivered in English. On-site groups should discuss language-support requirements with Swift Skills Academy before confirming the booking.
