  • In South Africa, the price for SAQA-accredited confined spaces training (Unit Standard 15034 – NQF Level 2, 2 credits) typically ranges from **R1,200 to R3,500 per person**, with most one- or two-day courses falling in the **R1,800 to R2,500 range** (excl. VAT). Costs depend on the provider's accreditation, course duration, inclusion of practical simulations (e.g., trenches/manholes), and location (urban vs. on-site). This training remains valid for enrolment until 30 June 2026 and achievement until 30 June 2029, making it a key compliance tool under the OHS Act for construction workers entering trenches, manholes, tunnels, or basements.

    Typical Course Prices (South Africa)

    Basic Confined Spaces Awareness  R1,200 – R2,000 (excl. VAT) | 1 Day Confined Spaces Entry & Basic Emergency Procedures | R2,200 – R2,800 (excl. VAT)  1–2 Days
Full Entry, Rescue & OHS Act Compliance (with Simulator) R2,800 – R3,500 (excl. VAT) | 2 Days
    Refresher Training (Annual Re-Certification) | R1,000 – R1,500 (excl. VAT)  Half Day

    • Accreditation Matters: Ensure the provider is accredited, often by a body like the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) through a specific unit standard (e.g., SAQA ID 15034, "Access and prepare a confined space for entry" [1]). Verification with accredited bodies like the Services SETA or similar health and safety organizations is crucial.

    • Group Discounts: Many providers like Swift Skills Academy offer savings for employers who book groups of employees for onsite training sessions, which can be a more cost-effective solution than individual bookings.

    • Additional Costs**: Factor in a medical fitness certificate (R300–R600, required for entry roles) and PPE like harnesses or gas detectors (R500–R1,000 if not supplied).

This training is mandatory under the OHS Act for anyone identifying or entering confined spaces on construction sites, covering hazards like gases, soil collapse, and fire to prevent fatalities..
